Novena of the Faithful
Intercession for Those Preparing for First Holy Communion and Renewal of Eucharistic Devotion
Intercession for Those Preparing for First Holy Communion and Renewal of Eucharistic Devotion
This novena invites the faithful to pray for the children in our diocese approaching first Holy Communion, entrusting their preparation to Jesus present in the Eucharist, while encouraging our own renewed love and devotion to the Blessed Sacrament. Rooted in the Church’s tradition of novenas as pious exercises of prayer and preparation, it seeks to strengthen unity within the body of Christ. Pray daily for nine days — for our first communicants and for fostering a deeper reverence for the Eucharistic mystery within our own hearts.

1. Sign of the Cross and Opening Prayer (pray once daily)
O Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament, source of all grace, we, Your faithful people, beseech You for the children preparing to receive You in first Holy Communion. Purify their hearts, increase their faith and grant them worthy reception. Renew our own devotion to this sacrament of love, drawing us closer to Your Eucharistic Heart. Through the intercession of Your Mother Mary, hear our prayers. Amen.
2. Daily Prayers (pray slowly, reflecting briefly)
Day 1: Jesus’ Gift
Jesus, Gift of the Father, thank You for the Eucharist, the treasure of Your abiding love. Grant these children pure and joyful hearts to receive You for the first time. Renew in us a grateful wonder before so great a gift. Amen.
Day 2: Real Presence
Jesus, truly present in the Blessed Sacrament — body, blood, soul and divinity — strengthen the faith of these young souls. Deepen within us the certainty of Your nearness and kindle renewed reverence in our hearts. Amen.
Day 3: Preparation of Heart
Jesus, Gentle Shepherd, prepare the hearts of these children to welcome You with trust and simplicity. Prepare our hearts as well, cleansing all that distracts or divides, that we may receive You with love. Amen
Day 4: Mary’s Guidance
Jesus, through the loving guidance of Mary our Mother, lead these children to Your altar with joy and peace. Draw us all to imitate her wholehearted “yes,” trusting in Your grace. Amen.
Day 5: Joy of Communion
Jesus, Bread of Life, fill these children with the joy of Your indwelling presence. Stir within us, too, a renewed eagerness to meet You in Holy Communion, where You heal, transform and sustain us. Amen.
Day 6: Church Unity
Jesus, unite Your Church in prayer as these children join us more fully at Your table. Strengthen our communion with one another and deepen our belonging to Your mystical body. Amen.
Day 7: Holy Spirit’s Fire
Holy Spirit, enkindle in these young ones a burning love for Christ in the Eucharist. Rekindle that same flame within us, that we may receive the sacrament with devotion and live its grace with fidelity. Amen.
Day 8: Eucharistic Devotion
Jesus, ever-present in the tabernacle, look with tenderness upon the children preparing to receive You. Grant us all a growing devotion to Your Eucharistic presence and hearts attentive to Your quiet voice. Amen.
Day 9: Mission
Jesus, send these children forth as witnesses to Your love in the world. Strengthen our own commitment to live as Eucharistic people — bearing Your charity, peace and truth wherever we go. Amen.
